McMorris Rodgers Files for 2010 Re-election

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers officially filed for re-election today to her fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington’s Fifth Congressional District.

“Our country is experiencing an unprecedented economic crisis - a crisis caused mostly by reckless federal spending, borrowing, and bailouts,” said Rep. McMorris Rodgers. “I am determined to return to Washington, D.C. where I can continue to advocate for lower taxes, lower government spending, and a balanced budget."

Rep. McMorris Rodgers voted against the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, the $787 billion economic “stimulus” bill, and the $1.3 trillion health care bill.  She is an advocate for a balanced budget amendment, a constitutional amendment that would prohibit federal spending from exceeding 20 percent of the economy (it's 27 percent today), and repealing the government takeover of health care and replacing it with a market-based solution to lower health care costs and increase access for all Americans.

"Speaker Pelosi and the Majority in Congress have ignored the will of the people," said Rep. McMorris Rodgers.  "The people of Eastern Washington are hungering for a new direction - a new commitment to common sense and accountability - and I want to lead the fight on their behalf.”

Rep. McMorris Rodgers is the Vice-Chair of the House Republican Conference, which makes her the fourth highest-ranking House Republican and the highest-ranking Republican woman.  In March 2010, House Republicans agreed to an earmark moratorium.  This is a commitment to fiscal responsibility that House Democrats refuse to make.

In her committee assignments, Rep. McMorris Rodgers has worked for bipartisan solutions to improve America's schools; good stewardship of our farms and forests; and keeping America's promises to our brave servicemen and women and our veterans.

Rep. McMorris Rodgers has at least two declared opponents for the 2010 election.  The filing deadline is June 11.

"I'm proud of my record standing up for Eastern Washington’s taxpayers, and I'm looking forward to having a good-faith discussion with my opponents about how we can create a smaller, smarter government and preserve the American Dream for our children and grandchildren."  In February 2010, Rep. McMorris Rodgers announced a “Patriot’s Pledge” consisting of ten specific agenda items that we she will advocate for during her campaign.

Rep. McMorris Rodgers won re-election in 2008 with 65% of the vote.
